Chautala cornered by Cong members on SYL issue
Chandigarh, Mar 12 (UNI) The Haryana assembly today witnessed heated exchanges between the ruling Congress and opposition INLD members on the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue.
Former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala (INLD), who stated during the discussion on the Governor's address that the Hooda government had not done anything for the construction of the SYL canal, had to face a combined and repeated onslaught from the Congress members.
The Congress members said Mr Chautala was a friend of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and therefore ignored the Haryana's interests on the SYL issue.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said the INLD had always harmed the intersts of Haryana by opposing the Rajiv-Longowal accord and boycotting the Eradi Tribunal.
Karan Singh Dalal (Cong) said the INLD supremo Chautala did not even criticise Mr Badal for threatening to delete Section 5 of the Punjab Termination of Agreements Act which protected existing flow of river waters to Haryana.
Mr Chautala, while admitting his family ties with Mr Badal, said he had never ignored the interests of Haryana on the issue.
