Sonia Gandhi urged to pick Uttarakhand CLP leader

Dehradun, Mar 11 (UNI) Uttarakhand Congress Legislative Party today adopted a unanimous resolution which urged All India Congress Committee chief Sonia Gandhi to select the CLP leader.

A decision to this effect was arrived at in a meeting held at Vidhan Sabha premises in the presence of Uttarakhand-in-charge Motilal Vora, AICC co-incharge R C Khuntia and Himachal Pradesh Power Minister Vidya Stokes.

Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Harish Rawat later told a press conference that four resolutions were passed unanimously in the meeting . ''Firstly, the Congress thanks all the electors, personnel on election duties and others for a peaceful conduct of Assembly election. Secondly, it thanks Congress National leadership and state leaders for their support during the election, Thirdly, it unanimously resolved to urge Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi to select leader of CLP,'' Mr Rawat said.

Apprising about the fourth resolution, he disclosed that Chief Minister B C Khanduri has urged the Congress party to extend support to him in the election of Assembly Speaker slated to be held tomorrow. ''Congress, urging the CM to keep this democratic tradition alive through out his tenure, has welcomed his proposal,'' Mr. Rawat said, adding that his party's door was open for the CM to approach his party anytime whenever wherever he needed.

When asked about the absence of two of the MLAs out of total 21 Congress MLAs in today's meeting, Mr Rawat maintained that both of them have already taken permission due to their other committments.
