Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Founder-President S Ramadoss today said the retrieval of Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka would give permanent protection to Indian fishermen who are often at the receiving end of the Sri Lankan Navy.

In a statement here, Dr Ramadoss said he wanted the people of Tamil Nadu, especially political parties in the state, to realise the fact and urge the Centre on retrieval issue.

Despite repeated requests and warnings against Lankan atrocities on Indian fishermen, the attacks were continuing.

In last one month, the Lankan Naval personnel attacked Indian fishermen in four incidents in which three fishermen were killed.

He hailed the ruling DMK's move to hold demonstration here tomorrow as a move against the attacks.

Dr Ramadoss said the attacks against the Indian fishermen increased only after Katchatheevu was handed over to Sri Lanka.

If we want to provide permanent protection to Indian fishermen, we should retrieve Katchatheevu from Sri Lanka and post Indian Navy there permanantly, he suggested.
