MP criticises TDP for defending the culrpit in Dalit incident

Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 11 (UNI) Amalapuram MP G V Harsha Kumar today alleged that Telegu Desam Party(TDP) did not take any initiative in the Murmanda incident, despite a TDP Dalit woman sarpanch was being named after her caste on International Women's Day and assaulting her husband.

Talking to newspersons here he alleged that the TDP leaders never bothered to call on her, but when the culprit, who belonged to the upper caste attacked her husband, was arrested, they called on him.

This proved beyond doubt that the TDP was only assisting the upper castes people, he alleged.

Mr Harsha Kumar, who is also the SC, ST Welfare Parliamentary Committee member said the Muramanda sarpanch after the incident, resigned on her own own from TDP and joined in Congress.

Mr Kumar alleged that the neglect of Dalits in Rajahmundry town, resulted in Congress party's defeat in the election. The party also failed to recognise its workes and its vote-bank, he added.

He criticised the TDP for its failure to function as a responsible opposition party in the state.

He said that he urged the NAFED to set up Coconut purchase centres in Konaseema to help farmers, since there was fall in prices.

He said that he urged the Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to release funds to assist the farmers.

Since the Communist Party of India(CPI) was clamouring for separate Telangana, there was no need for Second Reorganisation Commission(SRC), he added.
