MP bypoll: BJP's Shashi Prabha wins Udaypura
Bhopal, Mar 11 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh's ruling BJP today retained the Udaypura Assembly constituency where party nominee Shashi Prabha Singh pipped her nearest rival Mr Sahib Singh Patel (Cong) by 19,079 votes in a bypoll.
Ms Singh bagged 52,544 votes while Mr Patel's figure was 33,465.
The other six candidates lost their deposits. Of an electorate comprising 1,67,056 voters, 93,826 exercised their franchise on March 8.
The BJP's Rampal Singh, Ms Shashi Prabha's husband, was four times MLA from Udaypura since 1990. This byelection was necessitated as Mr Singh resigned after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Vidisha in a bypoll.
