Modi vows to change economic condition of adivasis in 5 years

Vadodara, Mar 11 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today reiterated his government's resolution to uplift the economic condition of the poor adivasis in the state with the implementation of its ambitious Rs 15000 crore ''Van Bandhu Vikas'' scheme.

Addressing a mammoth adivasi rally at tribal-dominated Kawant town, Mr Modi asserted that in the next five years, the package recently announced by his government would ensure hundred per cent growth in the income of each adivasi family in the state.

Mr Modi said during the last five years of BJP rule, his government had spent Rs.6000 crore for the development of the adivasis and has decided to announce the special Rs 15000 crore package with a view to double their income in next five years. The previous governments had spent only Rs 6,500 crore for the welfare of the tribals in 41 years, he alleged.

Later, the Chief Minister inaugurated a Rs 1.75-crore Sun Pharma hostel for postgraduate medical students of M S University of Baroda and laid the foundation stone for Rs 5 crore obstetric hospital in the city. The hospital project is to be fully funded by Baroda Medical College Alumni Association of North America (BMCAANA).

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi sought the help of all Non-Resident Gujarati (NRG) doctors, practicing in different countries, in providing better and quality medical care to the people of the state. The government was ready to provide them all necessary support if the NRG doctors devote some of of their valuable times for the poor patients, he said.
