Manipur Assy asks T jail to allow Shyamkumar to take oath

Imphal, Mar 11 (UNI) The Manipur Assembly Secretariat has urged Tihar Jail authority in New Delhi to allow Thounaojam Shyamkumar, the newly elected MLA of Manipur People's Party (MPP), to take part in the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly session scheduled to begin from March 16.

Assembly officials said the election of the Speaker will be held on March 16. So far 59 newly elected MLAs have taken oath and only Shyam was left as he was in jail.

Shyam was earlier caught at Delhi airport when he was on way to Kathmandu along with two leaders of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF).

Assembly Secretary T Joute said Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu will address the session on March 16 after the election of the Speaker and the House will have sittings on March 19, 21 and 22. The vote of accounts will be discussed and two appropriation bills will be presented.

Election of members of three financial committees will also be held on March 22, the Secretary said.
