DUJ hails Industrial Court verdict in favour of HT employee

New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) today hailed an Industrial tribunal's verdict, directing the management of a national english daily to pay to nearly 300 employees every month an interim relief equivalent to 50 per cent of the last drawn wages before they were retrenched on Ocotber 3, 2004.

The tribunal headed by Justice I S Mehta, citing the Supreme Court judgement in Mettur Beardsell Ltd case in 2006, held on Thursday that the Hindustan Times Ltd ''can not terminate the services of nearly 300 employees of printing department under section 25 FF of the Industrial Disputes Act on the plea that it had sold the printing business to HT Media Ltd which is not interested in keeping them.'' Describing the judgement as a landmark order, the DUJ appealed to all fraternal bodies, Members of Parliament and others to express solidarity with the cause of workers.
