Dhaka-Kolkata rail link to start on April 14

Kolkata, Mar 11 (UNI) Come April 14, the Bengali New Years' day, the Bengalis will have a reason to rejoice as Kolkata-Dhaka rail link is expected to be restored, marking a new phase of co-operation between India and Bangladesh.

Official sources here today said the railway link would open another crucial phase of cross-border linkages with India's neighbours.

In the new mileau of co-operation between the interim government in Bangladesh and India, the train would be operated by India and Bangladesh for six months each.

Expected to be greeted with equal amount of nostalgia and enthusiasm by people on both the sides of the border, who share similar culture, habits and language in the pre and even in the post-partition regime, the train service would supplement the existing Kolkata-Dhaka bus service that has been on for a few years now.

Official sources said the Bangladesh army chief has been invited to India and should be visiting India soon.
