Bangalore, Mar 11 (UNI) The BJP's will take out a 'Vikas Yatra' on April 9 to highlight the ''failures'' of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre to contain the rising prices of essential commodities.

Speaking to newspersons after holding a day-long meeting of the State party office-bearers and district presidents here today, State BJP President D V Sadananda Gowda said the meeting decided to highlight plight of the common man following the skyrocketing of the prices of all essential commodities. The yatra would also showcase the performance of the JD(S)-BJP Government during the last 13 months.

He said the yatra would be taken out in two teams, led by himself and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. After being flagged off in Davanagere, the yatra would criss-cross the State and converge on April 19 in Udupi, where a public meeting, attended by party President Rajnath Singh and former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, would be held.

Stating that the meeting discussed details of the coming local body elections in the State and decided to go it alone, Mr Gowda ruled out the possibility of mid-term polls to the State Assembly.

As per the understanding reached with the JD(S), Mr Yediyurappa would become the Chief Minister at the end of the JD(S)' tenure of 20 months. The Government would complete its full term, he added.
