Army pushes out militants from Manipur to Myanmar
Imphal, Mar 11 (UNI) Army officials said today they have pushed out militants from Manipur's Ukhrul district towards Myanmar.
Assam Rifles officials said acting on a tip off, an operation was launched to flush out United National Liberation Front (UNLF) cadres from Ukhrul.
In the operation which lasted for nearly five-days, two militants were killed and one SLR, ammunition and warlike stores were ecovered.
The UNLF however, refuted the story and claimed it had killed two army personnel.
AR sources further said about seven to eight militants were killed and another 20-25 injured, some of them critically.
Unable to withstand the onslaught, the cadres fled towards Myanmar to take refuge.
In two separate incidents, troops of the 44 Assam Rifles apprehended two People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres from Bongyang in Chandel district who were handed over to the police yesterday, official sources said.
