60 to 65 per cent polling recorded in ZP, Panchyat Samiti polls

Pune, Mar 11 (UNI) Polling in the 13 talukas of the district recorded a voter turnout of 60-65 per cent for 75 seats of the Zilla Parishad and 150 seats of Panchayat Samiti.

Polling went off peacefully in the district expect for an incident where two persons tried to break a voting machine in Khed Shivapur. A total of 11 cases of obstructing the polling process have been registered.

District Collector Prabhakar Deshmukh told mediapersons but for the solitary incident at Khed Shivapur the polling went off peacefully in the 13 talukas of the district.

He said some miscreants tried to disrupt the proceeding at Khed Shivajipur by trying to break the voting machine and also manhandling the election officer on duty. The Rural Police headed by Superintendent of Police Viswas Nagre-patil reached the spot and arrested a few persons.

The dispute arose after some persons were not allowed to vote despite having required identification as per government guidelines.

The government had earlier declared that the voters will be given the right to exercise their franchise by producing one of the 17 identifications.
