3-yr-old girl dies after falling into 60-foot deep borewell

Bhavnagar, Mar 11 (UNI) In a tragic accident, three-year-old Aarti died after she fell into a 60-foot deep borewell in Karmadia village, about 100 kilometres from here, this afternoon despite hectic efforts by the local administration and the army to save her.

The girl died of suffocation and her body has been retrieved from the borewell, sources said. The army personnel, who rushed here from Jamnagar, recovered the body late this evening.

Earlier, the girl slipped into the well while she was playing near a tree. The local administration had arranged for the supply of oxygen to the girl, while fire fighters from Bagdana, Mahuva and Bhavnagar were rushed to the spot.

A medical team, and a rescue team from Ahmedabad with necessary equipment were also rushed to the spot. The local administration, then, sought the Army's assistance, following which soldiers from Jamnagar arrived at the site.

The girl had earlier been answering to the calls of the rescuers, but had stopped responding since the last four hours which had led the rescuers suspect that she might have fainted.

However, by the time the army soldiers arrived, the girl had died.
