Sibu shifted to RIMS for treatment from Dumka jail

Ranchi, Mar 10 (UNI) Jailed former Coal Minister Sibu Soren was today shifted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science here following recurring multiple complications in his health that prevented him from appearing in the court for past four successive occasions.

Immediately on his reaching the RIMS, he was rushed to the emergency ward where ECG was being done on him.

RIMS Director Dr N N Agrawal told UNI here that he was most likely to be kept in a special cottage adding that the authorities from Dumka had given prior intimation to the hospital of the high profile politician's shift to the state capital.

The former Union Minister, also the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha president, had a series of health-related problems in the prison of Dumka Central Jail, including cardiac pain, swelling in legs, nausea and others.

As he failed to appear repeatedly in courts, doctors attending to him there suggested sophisticated tests as instruments to conduct such tests were not available in the district.

Last week the local court also cleared that Soren be shifted to Ranchi for treatment.

The JMM leader, facing life imprisonment in Tihar jail in New Delhi, was brought to the state last year as he was supposed to appear in local courts in Jharkhand.

Soren was accused of murder of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha.

The cases being heard in local courts here were mainly three-decade-old Chirudih massacre case in which 11 people were killed court besides Kudko murder case in Giridih district in which four people were killed more than a decade ago.
