New Delhi, Mar 10: Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken today said no commercial establishment in residential areas of the national capital that is protected by Delhi Master Plan 2021 will be sealed whether or not it falls on roads notified by the Municipal Corporation where such activities are permissible.

Municipal Corporation of Delhi had allowed commercial activities on 2,183 roads in the city. The Master Plan not only gave sanctity to this but also gave 90 days time to the civic body to identify more roads that fulfilled criteria layed down in the plan, he said after a meeting with All India Congress Committee General Secretary In-Charge of Delhi affairs Ashok Gehlot.

No sealing would be carried out in properties on such roads, whether or not they had been mentioned in the MCD notifications, he said even as process was on to notify more roads in the Capital.

Reacting to yesterday's Supreme Court directive to MCD to continue with its sealing drive against commercial units in residential areas except for those covered by the new Master Plan, he said the court had said nothing new but comply in letter and spirit with its February 12 order.

After been informed that the MCD had ''indefinitely'' stopped the sealing drive after the Master Plan was notified on February 7, the apex court clarified that no 'stay' could be maintained against sealing of commercial premises not protected by the new plan and, hence, sealing drive would have to resume against all premises that were not protected or covered by MPD 2021.
