Guj MPs wanted higher allocations for varous Railway projects

Ahmedabad, Mar 10 (UNI) A group of MPs from Gujarat has requested Railway Minister Lalu Yadav to shift Western Railway (WR) Headquarters to Ahmedabad in view of sharp increase in revenue.

In a post-Budget memorandum to the Railway Minister, the MPs also demanded the construction of third track between Ahmedabad-Mumbai due to phenomenal industrial traffic all round the year.

The group said the State had been demanding broad gauge network and new lines connecting locations of economic importance. But these were not met due to various reasons.

The Memorandum said the Kutch Railway Company had recently completed gauge conversion of Samkhyali-Palanpur railway line. To make speedy evacuation of port cargo from Kandla and Mundra ports, the railway line should be upgraded along with double stack container facility.

The Gujarat MPs said they wanted the route to be connected with dedicated freight corridor between JNPT-Delhi, proposed by the Railway Ministry.

The MPs wanted the gauge conversion of various routes, which was now economical. They demanded the Surat-Hazira 38 km new line should be taken up by the Railways as several big companies had set up their production facilities.

The MPs said higher allocations should be made for the various on-going Railway projects.
