Convene all-party meet to discuss 50 pc seats in Pvt colleges
Puducherry, Mar 10 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Puducherry today urged the administration to convene an all-party meeting immediately to ensure that the government gets 50 per cent seats in private professional colleges this year and to take a decision on the question of entrance test here.
Party secretary V Perumal, in a statement here pointed out that though on record that 50 per cent seats would be allotted to the government in private professional colleges, only 32.94 per cent seats were given in 2006-07.
Mr Perumal demanded that the government enact a legislation on the lines of Kerala to find a permanent solution to the government seat allocations in private self-financing, minority institutions and deemed universities.
The Marxist leader also demanded that the territorial administration should ensure that the Government Medical College here starts functioning in the next academic year with the intake of students.
The government should also make it clear whether there would be entrance examination in the Union Territory for admissions to professional colleges this year, he added.
