Andaman remembers First war of Independence heroes

Port Blair, Mar 10 (UNI) People of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today remembered the heroes of the First war of Independence and arrival of 200 prisoners in Andaman Island on this day in 1858.

Andaman Lt Governor Lt General(Retd) Bhopinder Singh today urged the islanders to pay tribute to the freedom fighters by laying wreath at the Martyr's Memorial at Marina Park in Port Blair this morning.

The laying of wreath by the Lt Governor was followed by paying floral tribute by the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and other dignitaries at the function which was open for all.

A cultural programme would be organised here in the evening.

Patriotic songs and two historical plays on 'Kala Pani' by the trainees of Dr B R Ambedkar Polytechnic and 'Battle of Aberdeen' by the artistes of Atul Smrity Samiti would be presented on this occasion.
