Stern action against supporters of LTTE: TN DGP
Chennai, Mar 9 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) D Mukherjee today warned stern legal action against members of political parties or independent outfits lending support to the outlawed Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Giving details of action taken so far against those who tried to supply arms to the banned militant organisation, Mr Mukherjee in a statement here said, ''stern legal action will be initiated against anyone who directly or indirectly offers support to the liberation tigers, either in the form of cash or materials.'' Action would be taken against them, whether they belonged to any political party or independent groups without any fear or favour, the DGP said, adding that the state police, in coordination with the coast guard, had already stepped vigil along the coast and the government also issued orders to the police to take severe action.
He said the state police, after launching a crackdown, has so far arrested 41 people, including 16 Sri Lankan Tamils. Ten of them have been detained under the National Security Act (NSA).
