Listed militant killed, two hideouts busted in J and K

Srinagar, Mar 9 (UNI) A listed militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was killed and two hideouts were busted in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Anantnag said a tip off was received that some militants were hiding at village Dachan Yaripora, Kulgam, in south Kashmir last evening.

He said a police party was immediately rushed there and the area was sealed from all sides. However, as the police personnel were about to storm a particular house, they came under heavy fire from the militants. The fire was returned and in the fierce clash, which continued for several hours, a militant was killed.

According to the SSP, the militant identified as Sayar Ahmad was involved in a number of militancy related incidents in the area and was carrying a reward.

He said one AK 47 rifle with UBGL and some magazines were recovered from the site of encounter.

An official spokesman said security forces busted a hideout during a search operation near border post at Kirpalpura in Jammu and recovered two AK rifles, ten magzaines, 593 rounds of ammunition and three pistols.

Another hideout was unearthed at Mandir Nallh in Poonch. The arms and ammunition recovered included one rocket and two hand grenades last night. However, no one was arrested.
