Japanese teacher killed in accident

Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Mar 9 (UNI) A Japanese teacher was killed and three others injured when their car collided with a bus at Sakri near here last night, police said.

The police said Ms Tomako Batnave (40), who headed an eight-member delegation of Japanese students visiting India under an exchange programme, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital here.

Two students - Sato Sajjo (21) and Kokihota (20)- and host D Prakash were also injured and their condition was stated to be stable.

The Japanese delegation, studying education system in rural and semi-urban areas of the country, was staying with retired teacher H Hemlata Prakash at Jarhagaon. While returning to Jarhagaon after visiting three educational institutions in the town, they met with the accident. The bus driver fled the spot.

Senior officials, who visited the accident site and the hospital, had informed the Japanese embassy in New Delhi about the accident, thev police added.
