Fresh violence in Nandigram

Kolkata, Mar 9 (UNI) A girl was injured as supporters of rival parties clashed throughout the day in Nandigram of East Midnapore district, as renewed violence sparked off in the strife-torn area today.

Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said a minor girl, who was caught in cross fire, received bullet injuries in her hand. She was admitted to hospital.

A large police force was already camping near the area.

The trouble broke out in Soachura village and its adjoining areas when members of Bhoomi Uchched Protirodh Committee, a local platform of the opposition parties and supporters of the CPI(M) clashed with each other, freely using firearms and bombs.

Both, the CPI(M) and the Bhoomi Uchched Protirodh Committee levelled allegation against each other for initiating attacks.

This was the third incident of violence in the area over five days after a housewife, reported to be a CPI(M) supporter, was gangraped in an act of political vendetta.
