Four college students among six arrested
Mumbai, Mar 9 (UNI) Six persons, including four college students, were arrested by sleuths of the Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) on charges of demanding extortion money of Rs 1.1 crore from a businessman in central Mumbai.
The accused had been making the demand since February 26, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dhananjay Kamlakar told reporters here today.
The businessman had lodged a complaint with AEC in this regard.
Thereafter, he had agreed to pay the amount in instalments and had fixed date, time and place for handing over the amount. Last night, at around 2200 hours, when the accused came near Godrej Hospital at Vikroli in eastern suburbs to receive the amount, the AEC team nabbed them.
The accused were identified as Prasad Anant Sawant, 21, Shekhar Suresh Chavan, 20, Shashikant Narayan Bhanwat, 21, Ravindra Baban Dhanwat, 20 (All third year B.com students), Santosh Savliram Hundare, 22, and Baban Prakash Bhanwat, 26.
Accused Prakash Bhanwat had already undergone seven-year Rigorous Imprisonment in a robbery case in Pune and was released last year, Mr Kamlakar added.
UNI
