Five civilians, nine rebels killed in Manipur

Imphal, Mar 9 (UNI) At least fourteen people -- five civilians and nine rebels -- were killed in different parts of Manipur in the past five days, official sources said today.

Five civilians and a suspected rebel were shot dead last night in two violent incidents, an official report said. The bodies of two civilians' were found with their hands tied at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Bishenpur district last night, police said.

The recovery of the bodies has created tension in the area.

Reinforcment was deployed to restore confidence among the people, police added.

In another incident, the body of a suspected ultra was found at Thanlon, Churachandpur district.

Meanwhile, the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has executed its eight cadres including its Vice-President KK Mangang and Finance Secretary Lamkhomba on March 5.

The outfit in a hand out issued here today said the cadres were awarded death sentence following a court martial at an undisclosed base. They were found guilty of conniving with ''enemies and giving details of the outfit to the enemies'', the report said.
