Three cops suspended for burning genetials of arrested
Gulbarga, Mar 8 (UNI) Three policemen, including two officers, of Surpur Police Station in the district were suspended on charges of torturing a man in police custody and trying to burn his genital.
Superintendent of police Manish Kharbikar, who rushed to the town about 90 km from here, told UNI that the three policemen including Circle Inspector, a Sub Inspector and a Constable were kept under suspension with immediate effect.
Reports said that Mr Yamunappa had been taken into custody last night when he created nuisance in the city in an inebriated condition. The cops put him in the lock up and tortured him by trying to burn his private parts with cigarette buts and lit piece of paper.
He was then let off by the cops and his relatives, seeing his pathetic condition, admitted him to a hospital. They then complained with the higher officials.
''The three have been charged under IPC 324, 342 and 34. A departmental inquiry has been ordered. Yamunappa is out of danger,'' the SP said.
The suspended were identified as S G Kattimani, Mallappa Bidri and Ramulu all working in Surpur police station.
