Sarpanch booked for evicting Dalit families

Jalandhar, Mar 8 (UNI) Punjab police has registered a case against a sarpanch and some of his associates on charges of forcibly evicting Dalit families from their houses in Mewasinghwala village of this district.

The Dalits, in a complaint to the Sultanpur Lodhi police, have alleged that village sarpanch Kuldeep Singh along with his six associates forced them to leave their houses and also demolished their animal shelters.

On the complaint of the Dalits, police yesterday registered a case under sections 148, 149, 379, 427 and 447 of the IPC and Section 3 of the SC/ST Act against the sarpanch and his associates.

Sultanpur Lodhi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP Pushkar Sandal today said one of the associates of the sarpanch identified as Sadhu Singh had been arrested.
