RITES bags excellence award for 2005-06

New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) RITES, the public sector undertaking of the Railway Ministry, has won SCOPE award for excellence and outstanding contribution to the Public Sector Management for the year 2005-2006.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented the award to RITES Managing Director V K Agarwal at a conference of chief executives of Central Public Sector Enterprises here today.

RITES was adjudicated by a jury led by Justice P N Bhagwati.

The criteria for evaluation of performance of enterprises were business results of the company, leadership policy and strategy, customer satisfaction management, customer value management, corporate governance practices, operations management, HRD and employee contribution, new product development and quality management, environmental management systems and corporate social responsibility.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister called for rethinking and reorientation of functioning of Public Sector Enterprises and entrepreneurial skills of the highest order to meet the challenges of globalisation and competition in the unfolding business scenario.

Congratulating the winners, Dr Singh hoped that the conference would debate and bring out suggestions for the government on important issues of autonomy, accountability, transparency, corporate governance and public sector reforms.
