Mulayam forecasts Congress' downfall
Baghpat, Mar 8 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today forecast the downfall of Congress, saying the recent poll debacles in Uttarakhand and Punjab were a pointer to its end.
Addressing an election meeting here, Mr Yadav claimed Congress had exerted all its energy trying to dislodge him from his seat.
''Under the same conspiracy, the CBI probe has been ordered against me and my family members in the disproportionate assests case,'' he added.
The CM asserted the central agency (CBI) was working under the pressure of the UPA government, ''I do not have faith in the impartiality of CBI.'' ''However, I am confident that such conspiracies of Congress would only lead to its downfall in other states as well, such as Haryana and Delhi.'' Mr Yadav also lambasted the centre for its ''weak foreign policy line, which is causing deterioration in relations with the neighbouring countries.'' He criticised RLD chief Ajit Singh for siding with Congress, saying Congress had always backstabbed Mr Singh's father and former Prime Minister late Chaudhary Charan Singh, whom he termed as the 'messiah of farmers'.
''It is sad that Mr Singh has joined hands with Congress against my regime,'' the former defence minister noted.
The CM listed the various achievements of his government.
