Illegal auction of trees thwarted in Anand

Anand, Mar 8 (UNI) A team from the collector's office today raided an open auction held for trees felled illegally on the Petlad-Sunav road and seized the wood and 102 vehicles, 25 tractors and 77 camel carts.

The team led by Mamlatdar B K Patel and his deputy V K Mehta and police officials at 0630 hours today held the raid. Though the wood was confiscated the vehicles were released later after a fine of Rs 1.2 lakh was collected.

A case has also been registered under Saurashtra Tree Felling Act against several persons.
