Centre asks states to implement RTI Act from their own funds
New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Centre has declined the request of many states seeking its assistance in implementing the Right to Information Act and told them to meet the statutory obligations from their own funds.
Miniser of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Suresh Pachaury told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that states like Chhatisgarh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Mizora, Tripura and Uttarakhand have sought central assistance for implemention of RTI Act.
He said Parliament has, by law, cast an obligation on the state governments to implement the Act and they are required to meet this statutory obligation from their own funds.
There was no immediate proposal to exclude more categories of information from the purview of the RTI Act, hesaid.
