Cabinet approves National Police Memorial at Delhi
New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for the construction of a National Police Memorial in Delhi as a symbol of honour to the police personnel who sacrificed their lives for the country.
Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that the present site will be retained for construction of a new structure for the memorial on the basis of recommendations made by the Group of Ministers.
The platform, the space constructed for museum and other structure, which are in harmony with the surroundings, will be retained.
However, the steel columns will be dismantled alongwith globe.
The globe may be stored at a suitable place and preserved for any possible alternative use in future, he said.
He said the broad parameters of the new Police Memorial structure will be finalized by CPWD in consultation with DUAC, IB and MHA within a period of 3 months and placed before the GOM.
The construction of new National Police Memorial will be completed within 18 months.
