All villages to be made clean by 2012
Patna, Mar 8 (UNI) The Bihar government has fixed a target to make all the villages clean and safe for people under complete cleanliness scheme by 2012.
Replying to short noticed questions, state public health and engineering minister Prem Kumar said the district level committees were entrusted to clean up their respective areas and set up community lavatories. He said already 14,680 lavatories were constructed by the end of January last against the target of constructing 49.32 toilets for families living below the poverty line.
Mr Kumar, however, admitted that the pace of the scheme was slowed during 2000 to 2005. He said the fund for such cleaniness drive was raised to Rs 1500 from Rs 675 for construction of toilets. Under the new arrangement the BPL family will have to bear Rs 300 for constructing toilet and the rest amount would be given by the government.
