Chennai, Mar 7 (UNI) Leading global commercial vehicle control system manufacturer Sundaram-Clayton Ltd, has showcased the next generation Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) for commercial vehicles.

ABS system was developed by its joint venture partner WABCO and now being manufactured by the company at their new, state-of-art facility at Ambattur here.

The Ministry of Shipping, Road transport and Highways had made it mandatory to fit ABS for vehicles of N2 and N3 category, other than tractor-trailer combination meant for carrying hazardous goods and liquid petroleum gas.

Further the government stipulated that from October 2007, all India tourist busses should also fit ABS.

Along with improving vehicle stability and stopping, ABS would also enable drivers to handle emergency braking situations more easily.

With the addition of electronic controls on the brake system, wheel locking would be avoided and thus accidents would be reduced by preventing vehicle skidding, enabling braking and eliminating tyre flat spots, the officials added.
