Police looks for escaped LeT terrorists in nursing homes

Lucknow, Mar 7 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh police is looking for the injured Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists in city nursing homes and various other towns after it was confirmed that one of the two ultras received bullet injuries on his left shoulder.

The state police, along with the Special Task Force (STF) is also tracing the over 100 phone calls made and received by the two terrorists between December, 2006 and February, 2007 when they were lodged in a local jail. They had called various numbers in Dubai and had similarly received similar calls from the Gulf state on their cell phone while they were hiding in their barracks.

The two had escaped from the premises of the district judge court on February 27 after brandishing pistols. The pistols were hidden in a public toilet they had used before making good their escape.

When they were running towards Balrampur hospital, one of the rookie constables had fired from his rifle. Earlier it was believed that he had missed the terrorists. But the confessional statement by a tempo driver who had dropped the two near Imambara has changed the scenario.

One of them was hit on the left shoulder. ''Either he is dead or recovering in a local nursing home...since Nepal is close to East UP, we are also looking in the various nursing homes in that region,'' said a police official.

The two Pakistani nationals had escaped from police custody as they were taken to a district court for a hearing.

Maqsood Ahmed alias Ashraf and Mohammad Saeed alias Mazhar were arrested in 2002 from Ghazipur town in Uttar Pradesh by the STF. A large cache of arms of explosives had been recovered from them.

Ahmed and Saeed were arrested under the Prevention of Terrorist Activities (POTA) Act. He was sentenced to death by a Delhi court for the killing of a CRP constable in Jharodan Kalan near Delhi in a terrorist attack.
