No further hike in petrol, diesel prices: Deora

Chennai, Mar 7 (UNI) Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora today assured that there would not be any further hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.

Talking to newspersons at the airport here, Mr Deora pointed out that prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene were ''very low'' in India compared to other countries in the world.

He said India was the only country to supply kerosene to poor people at Rs 9 per litre as it was ''fuel for the poor''.

Mr Deora hailed the recent budget presented by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, and added this was the first time, petrol and diesel prices were not hiked soon after the budget.

Asked whether there was any idea to reduce the price of LPG, the minister ruled out such possibility.

He said he was in the city to review the performance of the public sector oil companies.
