New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Negative marking will be introduced in Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination from this year.

The UPSC has decided to introduce negative marking as a strong deterrent against guesswork and to accurately assess the level of competence and proficiency of candidates, Minister of State for Personnel Suresh Pachouri informed the Lok Sabha today.

''Besides, this practice is in keeping with the practice adopted by other competitive examining bodies in the country,'' he said during Question Hour.

Although the recommendations were received in August 1989, the UPSC after due consideration did not agree to the proposal of introduction of negative marking at that time.

X X X Corruption: As many as 175 complaints of corruption were received against IAS officers during 2005 and 2006.

The Home Ministry, however, received 26 complaints of corruption against IPS officers during that period.

NO IAS or IPS officer was terminated from service on the basis of such complaints, Mr Pachouri said.
