J'khand police engages full strength to gather leads on Mahto death
Ranchi, Mar 7 (UNI) With counter-insurgency operations intensified by neighbouring Orissa and West Bengal, Jharkhand police has also engaged full strength to gather evidence regarding killing of MP Sunil Mahto before the case is handed over to the CBI.
Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal on March 5 said the Centre would take decision on the state government's request for CBI inquiry into the assasination within the next 48 hours.
According to Director General of Police J B Mahapatra, the border with Bengal had been immediately sealed to prevent escape of the assailants.
A team of CID personnel was yesterday sent to Jamshedpur to gather evidence by Additional Director General (CID) R C Kaithal, who was scheduled to visit Jamshedpur today.
Though, it is a normal affair for CID to conduct its own investigation in such incidents, senior police sources asserted that the state police took Mahto's case seriously and did not want to leave anything to chances before the case was handed over to the CBI.
The CID team comprised Forensic Science Laboratory director A K Bapule, two DSPs-Mahesh Ram Paswan and Bhandari Manjhi and three inspectors.
