Bangalore-Kochi rail container movement to be resumed

Kochi, Mar 7 (UNI) Container movement between ICD Whitefield (Bangalore) and Kochi is set to resume after being disrupted since February 24 due to suspension of rail movement across the Venduruthy bridge, which was damaged by a dredger.

The container train will be handled at the Ernakulam Marshalling (ERM) yard till rail traffic is restored over the Venduruthy bridge, a release by DP World, which operates the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal (RGCT) at Cochin Port, said.

Arrangements had been made for road bridging the exporters containers from ERM to the RGCT. Imports from Kochi to Bangalore will also be similarly road bridged by DP World Kochi from the RGCT to ERM for onward train connection to ICD Whitefield.

''The Cochin Port Trust, CONCOR and DP World Kochi have made necessary arrangements among themselves to ensure that there is no additional cost to shipper or consignee in this interim operation to handle the Bangalore container traffic,'' DP World said.
