4 charred in major fire, 70 hutment gutted

Unnao, Mar 7 (UNI) Four members of a family, including two girls, were charred to death and about 70 hutments reduced to ashes in a major fire here today.

Police said a 'bidi' butt caused the fire in a hut at around 1445 hrs at Khannapurwa village. The flames soon spread in the vicinity due to velocity winds killing four people on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Hariram (40), his son Rajesh and two daughters aged 12 and 6 years. The blaze was so powerful that the victims could not come out of their dwelling and were burnt alive.

Hariram's wife also sustained serious burns and was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition.

Property worth several lakhs was also gutted.

Later, senior officials reached the spot.
