Chennai, Mar 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President M Krishnasamy today accused the opposition AIADMK of attempting to weaken the decision taken at an all-party meeting to prefer an appeal before the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal with regard to certain 'shortcomings' in the final award.

The AIADMK's continuous acts against the Tamil people's feelings on the Cauvery issue were nothing but a betrayal of Cauvery delta farmers, he charged in a statement here.

Questioning the rationale behind AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa's contention that filing a review petition before the Tribunal and notifying its final award in the official gazette were two different issues, he said the law was very clear that gazette notification could be done only after the time for filing review petitions was over.

As per Section 6A(2) of the Inter-State Water Disputes Act, the final award would be binding on states once it was published in the official gazette and there would be no scope for the Supreme Court to intervene, he said.

Pointing out that Tamil Nadu had time till May five to prefer an appeal before the Tribunal, Mr Krishnasamy said Ms Jayalalithaa's had made a charge with an 'ulterior motive' that the state had failed to file the review petition.
