Oppn stages walkout over KSTP works

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 6 (UNI) The Congress-led Opposition in Kerala today walked out of the Assembly alleging the Left Front Government's laxity in completing the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) works in the state.

Seeking leave for the motion, Mr Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan (Cong) said it was because of the ineptness of the government that ''Pati-Bel'', the contractor of the project, stopped work midway causing hardships to people.

He charged that it was all part of the government's ''game plan'' to entertain the contracting firm's demand of 30 per cent increase in the original contract amount.

If the government had released the part of the bill, submitted by the firm as well as conceded its demand for time extension to complete the work, the project would not have been delayed and the company would not have left it midway, he argued.

He said of the 1600-km long project, the work of the 800-km road had already been completed.
