MP urges restoration of Bangalore-Mangalore port

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) Congress MP Mr B K Hariprasad today urged the government to restore Bangalore-Mangalore port under Golden Quadrilateral scheme by the National Highway Authority of India, besides regulating overladen vehicles transporting ores from Bellary.

In his special mention laid on the table of the House, Mr Prasad said the highway connecting the IT capital and Mangalore port was in a pathetic condition, making the movement of passenger vehicles and goods carriers highly risky.

The ore laden trucks from Bellary were often overloaded endangering the movement of passengers and goods carriers, he said.

The recently commissioned Broad Gauge link between Mangalore and Hassan was not operational for passenger and goods trains adding congestion and volumes on the roads.

''The Centre should take up early restoration of vital stretch of this highway link,'' Mr Prasad urged.
