Mizoram encroaching forest land in Asom:Roy
Guwahati, Mar 6 (UNI) The Asom government today informed the Assembly that neighbouring Mizoram has encroached upon 536 hectares of forest land of the state.
Replying to a written question on encroachment of Asom land by Mizoram, state Border Areas Minister Gautam Roy said the encroachment had taken place in Santipur Kolalen, Lushaicherra Kalagang and Medhlicherra Kotamoni in the reserve forest areas.
However, no encroachment had taken place over Patta or government "khas" land by Mizoram at Rangamati-Khanhum site under Karimganj district of Asom, he added.
Mr Roy informed that Karimganj DFO had lodged protest with his counterpart in Mizoram and correspondence had been pursued, including joint meetings.
He also informed that no developmental schemes under the Border Areas Development department had been undertaken in Karimganj district along Asom-Mizoram and Asom-Tripura borders.
