LS adjourned after paying tributes to Sunil Mahto

New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was today adjourned for the day after paying tributes to JMM MP Sunil Mahto, who was gunned down by Naxalites at Baguria in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on March 4.

As soon as the House assembled in the morning, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee read out the obituary reference followed by observance of a one-minute silence by the members in memory of the slain Kurmi leader.

In the obituary reference, the Speaker said he was a social worker, who was assiduously involved in the uplift of tribals, and a pillar of the Jharkhand movement, who died young.

'' We deeply mourn the untimely demise of our colleague caused by a dastardly crime and the House will join me in conveying our condolence to the bereaved family,'' the Chair said.

Mahto's killing had sparked an uproar among the party activists who gave a call for a day-long bandh in Jharkhand yesterday, which found the support of all political parties.
