Srinagar, Mar 6 (UNI) The construction work on the mega convocation complex, taken up 25 years ago, on the University of Kashmir Campus at Naseem Bagh, has almost been completed.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdul Wahid informed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad yesterday.
Mr Azad, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of Kashmir University, hoped that this mega convocation complex which will be first of its kind in north India will be completed and given finishing touches within one month.
He advised the Vice-Chancellor to make the centre as one of the important intellectual centres of the country where national and international conferences could be organised.
The foundation stone of convocation complex was laid in 1980 by the then Chief Minister late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah but the work remained disrupted for several decades.
The Chief Minister who spent several hours on the University campus planted chinar trees in different lawns of different faculties and advised horticulture and floriculture departments to provide maximum chinar saplings to Kashmir university.
Mr Azad turned nostalgic when he visited the hostel and the room where he stayed as a student and met various staff members who were his contemporaries.
He had a detailed one-hour interaction with the staff of academic unit and different faculties.
