GSU demands magisterial inquiry into BSF killing
Shillong, Mar 6 (UNI) The Garo Students' Union (GSU) has asked the Meghalaya government to institute a magisterial inquiry into the alleged killing of a 16-year-old boy by the Border Security Force.
The boy, identified as Mithun Marak, was allegedly gunned down by BSF personnel on March 3 night in state's Ryngku village bordering Bangladesh.
DIG BSF N S Sajjan had said the boy was shot dead by the jawans while he was 'smuggling' bundles of bamboo to Bangladesh.
Terming the killing as a 'cold blooded murder', GSU president Khasi Hills Zone Aldo A Sangma said the incident took place when two BSF personnel misbehaved with two girls in the village.
Mr Sangma said the boy was shot at point blank range by the BSF personnel mainly because he witnessed their 'nefarious' attempts.
''The government should punish the guilty,'' the GSU president said.
Meanwhile, the state police investigating into the incident refused to make any comment.
