Cops bust inter-state gang
Mumbai, Mar 6 (UNI) The city police busted an inter-state robbers gang with the arrest of six alleged history-sheeters here this morning.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kamlakar told reporters that Detection of Crime Branch sleuths, on specific information, lay in wait near Chembur here and arrested the six. They had allegedly assembled at Chembur to commit a robbery at a jewellery shop.
The arrested have been identified as Asfaq Abbas Bengare alias Jack alias Samir (29), Sundar Challaparmar Pille (43), Sandip Pandurang Dhuri (41), Rajesh Kamlakar Lad (38), Ashok Dangdu Tupe (35), and Suhah Govind Ganjekar (47).
Police have seized three country-made pistols, five live cartridges, two mobile phones, two choppers and the car in which they had arrived.
The DCP said one of the arrested, Jack, was wanted in 13 cases in Goa and Maharashtra. He had earlier been convicted in a robbery case in Goa.
The pending cases against the six include that of extortion, murder, robbery, rioting and others.
Meanwhile, the six were produced before a local court following their arrest which remanded them in police custody till March 20.
