BJP MP quits APEDA to protest neglect of NE
New Delhi, Mar 6 (UNI) BJP MP Kiren Rijiju today resigned from his membership of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Development Authority (APEDA), protesting against the organisation's ''neglect'' of the North East.
Mr Rijiju, who had become a member of the APEDA through an election in the Lok Sabha, quit the post expressing disillusionment with the functioning of the organisation. ''I had expected it to contribute towards the development of the country as well as the NE region,'' he said.
The MP said despite his request and suggestions, the Authority failed to do anything for the region, even as the exports through it crossed Rs 25,000 crore, ''The Chairman's style of conducting meetings and carrying forward programmes is not encouraging. I protest. I tender my resignation,'' Mr Rijiju wrote in his letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
