Auto assn take out procession to press demands

Puducherry, Mar 6 (UNI) The Puducherry Pradesh Autorickshaw drivers and owners association members today took out a procession through the main thoroughfares of the town to press their demands.

They were demanding, among other things, provision of Rs 10 crore as grant to the unorganised labourers welfare association and sale of auto spares through the cooperative department.

Intending to stage a demonstration in front of the chief secretariate, they took out the procession from the new bus stand.

When the procession reached Gingee Saalai, police prevented them from moving further. They shouted slogans at the spot and disbursed.

Meanwhile, inmates of all Adi Dravidar hostels here observed a fast near the Venkatasubbareddiyar statue, demanding provision of basic amenities in the hostels.
