2 women drown in canal

Lakhimpur Kheri, Mar 6 (UNI) Two women drowned in the Sharda canal here, when the boat they were being ferried on capsized midstream this evening.

The victims were identified as Champa Devi (70) and her grand-daugher Lalli (10) of village Rajpur Kabiraha.

The incident occurred in Isanagar area, police said.

About 15 people were travelling in the boat, however, 13 of them swam to safety.

The body of Champa had been fished out, while divers were trying to recover the girl's corpse.
